Qatar Airways

Flying with Qatar Airways

Qatar's national flag carrier Qatar Airways was founded in 1994. It is headquartered in Doha, Qatar, and is wholly owned by the government of Qatar. The company's main hub is located at Hamad International Airport, which is also in Doha. The airline's fleet of over 170 aircraft serve more than 150 destinations all across the globe, covering the Middle East, North and South America, Asia, Africa and Europe. The fleet consists of a mixture of Airbus and Boeing planes. The most common aircraft in Qatar Airways is the Airbus A320, although there are nearly as many Boeing 777s and Boeing 787s.

Among Qatar Airways' most popular routes are their flights to Doha, London, Bangkok and Dubai. It operates codeshare flights with a large number of other airlines, including Air France, American Airlines and Cathay Pacific. The company is also a member of the oneworld alliance, having joined in 2013.

Online check-in

Passengers can check in online for their Qatar Airways flight if they wish. Online check-in opens 48 hours before takeoff and closes 90 minutes before the flight departs. Exceptions to this are flights to and from the United States of America. On these flights, online check-in opens 24 hours before departure rather than 48. Passengers can check in on a mobile or web browser or by using the Qatar Airways app. The passport and visa details of passengers are required for online check-in and accommodation details may also be necessary for some Qatar Airways flights. Passengers can also check in at the airline's airport counters. This option opens 3 hours before a flight departs.

Hand luggage allowance

The standard hand luggage allowance on a Qatar Airways flight dictates that passengers may bring 1 piece weighing up to 7 kg for Economy class tickets and 2 pieces with a combined weight of up to 15 kg for Business and First class tickets. Hand luggage dimensions must be less than 50 x 37 x 25 cm, regardless of ticket class. Some small items including handbags, briefcases and duty-free purchases can be brought onto the aircraft but are not considered part of the hand baggage allowance on a Qatar Airways flight. Some musical instruments can also be carried into the cabin but a ticket must be purchased for the seat that they will occupy.

Checked baggage policy

Qatar Airways' standard checked baggage stipulations allows for 30 kg baggage for Economy class passengers, up to 40 kg for Business class and up to 50 kg for First class passengers. For all classes, checked luggage is subject to a maximum length, width and height of 300 cm. These allowances vary on some routes, including Qatar Airways flights to Brazil, Argentina, Canada, the U.S., Casablanca and other African destinations. Passengers on any of these routes should check their allowance before flying. Additional checked baggage allowance can be purchased online. If passengers wish to take any sports equipment it will count towards their checked luggage allowance. If passengers exceed their allowance of checked luggage, they will face an extra charge from the airline.
