Online check-in for ITA Airways flights is quick and easy. It is accessible on the ITA website or app from 48 hours before departure (24 hours for flights to/from the United States). For international flights, you can check in, get your boarding pass, change your seat, purchase extra baggage and other additional services up to one and a half hours before departure for international flights and up to 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights.

You can complete online check-in by entering your last name(s) and booking code (which is usually your ticket number), or you can check in using your frequent flyer code and last name(s). You will then be able to print your boarding pass or download it from the ITA Airways app. During check-in you will also be able to purchase other services such as choosing additional seats or adding extra baggage.

Once you have checked in online, if you only have hand luggage, you can proceed directly to the airport security checkpoints. If you have checked baggage, you must hand it in at the special or Business Class counters.

On ITA Airways flights, only one piece of hand baggage weighing a maximum of 8 kg may be carried in the cabin. Airways also allows one of the following personal items: handbag, briefcase or laptop computer. The small personal item will be placed under the seat on all ITA Airways flights, with the exception of flights operated on A330 aircraft.

Before arriving at the gate, passengers will need to check the size and weight of their hand baggage with ITA Airways ground staff or by placing it on the baggage meters located next to the check-in counters. Carry-on baggage that does not meet these requirements may not be accepted on board.

The carrier reserves the right to collect hand baggage at the gate for carriage in the hold in the case of busy flights. The selected baggage will be labelled by airport staff. This procedure is not foreseen for intercontinental flights.

Checking a bag with ITA Airways is very simple. The conditions vary depending on the checked baggage allowance purchased at the time of ticket purchase. Each piece of checked baggage can have a maximum weight of 23 kg and a maximum size of 158 cm (sum of height, width and depth).

In some cases, the free checked baggage allowance will be higher, depending on the destination and the category of the ticket, and it is possible to check in two pieces of baggage weighing a maximum of 32 kg each.

Depending on the flight destination, a supplement will be applied in the event of excess weight, number of pieces or dimensions. For security reasons, each piece of baggage may weigh a maximum of 32 kg. If the weight is greater than this, the company will not allow the bag to board.

As with most airlines, the first tip for getting the best fares when booking flights with ITA Airways is to book as far in advance as possible. If you manage to book several months in advance, you will find cheap flights very easily. We recommend booking your tickets 4 to 8 weeks in advance to get the best prices. This is especially useful if you plan to fly in the high season months, such as July and August, Easter and Christmas.
