Wizz Air

Flying with Wizz Air

Wizz Air is a Hungarian airline founded in 2003 and a low-cost European flight operator. In order for it to keep costs at a minimum, Wizz Air flights tend to land a smaller, secondary airports. Its headquarters are in Budapest, Hungary, at the Ferenc Liszt International Airport. Wizz Air has additional operating bases in a number of Central and Eastern European countries, including Serbia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Czech Republic, Latvia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Slovakia.

The airline's fleet is made up of nearly 70 Airbus A320 and A321 aircraft, which is greater than the total fleet size of any other Hungarian airline. Wizz Air flights land in more than 30 different countries and serve over 110 destinations. Popular routes for the airline include its flights to London Gatwick, Barcelona Girona and London Luton. The airline has not joined any of the major alliances and does not operate any codeshare agreements on its flights.

Online check-in

Wizz Air passengers can check in for their flights online. Online check-in opens 30 days prior to the scheduled take-off time for a Wizz Air flight and closes 3 hours before it. Once they have checked in online, passengers can print their own boarding pass. Any passenger younger than 14 must have an adult older than 16 years of age check in on their behalf. While checking in online, passengers can select their seat, increase their checked luggage allowance and add Priority Boarding. Even if they check in online, passengers who are not from an EU or EEA country must go to the airport check-in counter to have their travel documents checked. If passengers do not check in online they will have to pay a charge to check in at the airport.

Hand luggage allowance

Passengers on Wizz Air flights are entitled to 1 small item of hand luggage, subject to the dimension limitations of 42 x 32 x 25 cm. Passengers are also allowed 1 personal item that must be smaller than 40 x 30 x 18 cm. Passengers can also pay an extra fee to bring a large item of hand luggage instead of a small one. The maximum dimensions for this are 56 x 45 x 25 cm. Passengers who have purchased Priority Boarding may bring a small or a large piece of hand luggage as well as one personal item. Example personal items are a camera bag or laptop bag. If any of a passenger's hand luggage exceeds these regulations it will be checked into the hold of the Wizz Air flight and the passenger will be charged accordingly. Musical instruments may be brought into the cabin in place of a large item of hand luggage, provided they are no bigger than 80 x 45 x 25 cm.

Checked baggage policy

The maximum size for any 1 piece of checked baggage on a Wizz Air flight is 149 x 119 x 171 cm and the maximum weight is 32 kg. Checked baggage allowance should be added to passengers booking in advance. This can be done when making a booking, later online during online check-in, or by calling the airline's call centre. Checked baggage allowance can be added to a book until 3 hours before a flight is due to leave. Passengers can choose to pay for checked baggage upon arrival at the airport but it will be more expensive than doing do in advance. Passengers can add up to 6 items of checked luggage per person to their booking.
